Karl Zimmerman

1928 – 2017

With great sadness, his family announces that Karl Zimmerman passed away May 14, 2017 at Crest View Village in Creston, BC at the age of 88 years.

Karl was born in Emmen, Luzern, Switzerland. He was raised in a family of 12 at the Buseri Farm in Merlischachen, and came to Canada in 1953. He initially worked on farms in Ontario to obtain his Canadian citizenship. After moving to BC in 1956, he worked on road construction and in sawmills. He met his wife Agnes, another Swiss immigrant, in Ocean Falls. They raised three children – Kathleen, Frank and Deborah.

They lived in Clearwater for 28 years, where Karl's final job before retirement was as a Maintenance Man for the School District. During that time, Karl tended his beloved hobby farm in East Blackpool, sharing his knowledge and skills with neighbouring farmers.

In 1992, Karl and Agnes retired to Creston where they actively participated in card playing, the Seniors' Center, Gleaners, T.A.P.S., and curling.

Karl was a man of great integrity whose word was his bond, and he will be deeply missed. A Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to either: T.A.P.S., Box 187, Creston, BC V0B 1G5; or to P.A.W.S., 2805 Lower Wynndel Road, Creston, BC V0B 1G8.
