Daniel Coleman

Dan Coleman of Clearwater B.C. passed away on February 23, 2017 at 68 years of age.

Survived by his loving wife Donna Coleman, children: Ben Coleman, Gabe (Heather) Coleman, Dave (Tiana) Coleman, Luke (Georgia) Coleman, Stephanie (Daniel) Coleman, grandchildren: Greyson, Harper, Abel, Ansel, Beau, Elle and Sebastian and sister, Kit McDonald

Dan was born December 10, 1948 to George and Betty in Victoria, B.C. He was a teacher, coach, athlete and a passionate advocate of the Clearwater community.

He began his teaching career at Vavenby Elementary School in 1975 after completing his education at the University of Victoria. His teaching career spanned over three decades at Raft River and Vavenby Elementary Schools giving him the opportunity to impact multiple generations of North Thompson Valley families.

Sport was central to Dan’s life, especially coaching. It brought him a huge amount of satisfaction. While he enjoyed seeing his teams win, it was secondary to seeing athletes improve as individuals, surpassing their own expectations of themselves. The track, volleyball court, gym and field were where he was most comfortable and influential.

Outside of his coaching and teaching responsibilities, he loved to spend time with his wife and children, particularly if this time involved fishing, camping or cycling. A canoe, fishing rod and calm water was his version of heaven on earth.

Most important to Dan was his Christian faith. It was foundational for the love and passion he showed to his community, family and friends. He demonstrated the love of Jesus through action, service, and offering a gentle listening ear and encouragement to everyone he encountered.

We will remember him as a husband, father, grandpa, teacher, coach, fishing buddy, cycling enthusiast, mentor, and amazing friend.

A Memorial Service for Dan will take place at the Clearwater Secondary School on March 1st, 2017, at 4:00 pm with Doug Holtby officiating.
