January 3, 1925 - January 18, 2022
The family of Alice Cederholm are saddened to announce her passing on January 18, 2022 at Forest View Place in Clearwater, B. C. with her daughter Sheila by her side.
Mom was born in Sunderland, England on January 3, 1925 the 3rd eldest of 12 children.
She met her future husband Ed while he was stationed in England during World War II. They married on September 29th, 1945. Dad came home and mom followed him in 1946, crossing the Atlantic by ship and then crossing Canada by train from Montreal. She was a courageous bride as she did the trip alone, without family and in the company of other war brides. Mom and dad settled at Mile 34 in Avola and moved to Vavenby in 1953 where she lived until 2013. She moved to Kamloops for a short period of time and relocated to Clearwater in 2015.
Mom was active in the (British) Women's Land Army, a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the IWA, the Vavenby Trimmerettes Club and was involved in the formation of the The Royal Canadian Legion Vavenby and District Branch 259. She later joined the Legion where she always enjoyed a good game of cribbage or darts and playing 16 cards on a bingo night. If there ever was a scratch ticket aficionado - she was it!
The happiness and well-being of her family was important to her, as over the years she watched her family grow and bloom. She was also passionate about her garden, weeds did not dare show their ugly heads - if they did they were immediately dispatched. When she wasn't tending her family or her garden you would see her with a pair of knitting needles busily knitting a sweater, toque or a pair of mittens for a loved one. Often she was called upon to supply a few dozen buns for a community dinner. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Ronald (Charlotte), Bill (Kathy), Raymond (Irene), of Vavenby, Donna (Daryl), Parksville, B. C., Vera (Gavin) Orleans, Ont., Betty-Ann (Larry) Prince George, B.C., Sheila, Kelowna, B.C., 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, her sister Cathy and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Edmund, daughter Dorothy, her parents William and Alice Johnson, sisters Dorothy, Nellie, May, Ada, Vera, Hilda, Nancy, Eleanor and brothers Robert and William.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Forest View Place for the care they gave mom during her stay.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
