RCMP Report: Police investigate double fatalities

Clearwater RCMP and RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services continue to investigate a double fatal collision involving two vehicles that occurred Oct. 3 on Highway 5 north of Blue River.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, at approximately 8 a.m., Clearwater RCMP and the RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services were called to a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 5, north of Blue River and south of the Thunder River Bridge.

Two occupants of one of the vehicles died as result of the collision.

Upon arrival, RCMP investigators were able to determine that a northbound Dodge Caravan had crossed the centerline of the undivided highway and had collided with a southbound chartered/private tour bus.

It has been confirmed that the two occupants of the B.C. registered minivan – the male driver in his 60s and a female passenger in her 40s – were pronounced deceased at the scene. One individual in the bus received minor injuries.

RCMP Traffic Services investigators and the BC Coroner Services continue to investigate the collision and deaths.

Police keep busy

From Oct. 1 to 8, Clearwater RCMP had 48 calls for police service with the following notable files:

• Mental Health Act apprehension – On Sunday, Oct. 1, RCMP received a 911 call from Blue River. Police attended and apprehended a suicidal male who was taken to the Clearwater hospital and then the Kamloops psychiatric ward for further medical attention.

• Assist BC Ambulance Services – On Monday, Oct. 2, RCMP assisted BC Ambulance Services with a male who needed to go the Clearwater hospital for medical attention after the male consumed a significant does of Tylenol pills.
