Police charge two for trafficking in marijuana

Police stopped a northbound vehicle on Highway 5 near the Mad River Bridge and Avola.

The vehicle had been speeding and had a Saskatchewan licence plate. Two male occupants were inside.

Police had reasonable and probable grounds to believe that there were drugs in the vehicle. Police arrested both males for possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the vehicle located 22.07 kg of green marijuana, 1001.5 grams of shatter and 2.29 kilograms of suspected marijuana-infused edibles. Street value of all combined was $100,000.

Both males re-arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking. The males were later released on a recognizance with an upcoming court date in Clearwater.

Impaired driving

Police issued a male a three-day immediate roadside prohibition for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Police checks showed the male to have an outstanding warrant for firearms charges out of Kamloops. The male was arrested for the outstanding warrant and later released with an upcoming court date in Kamloops.

Theft of Stihl power saws

Police were advised of a theft of two original Stihl power saws from Davy Road in Clearwater.

One was a model 290 with a 20-inch bar inside of an orange case with homemade cloth handle. The other was the same type of saw just slightly larger as it was a 390 model with a 24-inch bar which was also inside an orange case. Both saws and both cases had either “JH” or “HJ” written on them in black ink.

Impaired driving

Police received numerous reports of the vehicle driving dangerously on Highway 5. The driver was later located near Tum Tum Creek north of Avola. Police issued a male a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition for impaired driving and impounded his vehicle for 30 days.

Excessive speed – vehicle impounded

Police stopped a silver Honda Civic with an Alberta license plate for travelling 147 kilometers per hour in a regulatory posted 80 kilometer per hour speed zone.

The 19-year-old male driver and registered owner was informed that due to British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act legislation, that the vehicle he was driving would be impounded for a time period of seven days.

The male was also issued a violation ticket for excessive speed, under Section 148(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Approximate cost to the driver with fines, tow and storage was $1,000.

Local male charged

A local male was arrested for assault with a weapon and uttering threats while under the influence of alcohol. He was released on a promise to appear in Clearwater Court and an undertaking with numerous conditions that must be followed.

Drug trafficking report

Police seized drugs and drug paraphernalia from a vehicle in Clearwater and are investigating a trafficking report. An 18-year-old male from Kamloops who is known to police is the prime suspect.

The male has recently been observed spending some time in the Clearwater area. At the time of the seizure and report, the male had returned to Kamloops.

Police will continue to investigate and patrol areas that he had frequented.
