Kamloops RCMP are looking for former Clearwater resident Thelma Vaughn after her vehicle was found abandoned east of the city.

Kamloops RCMP continue to search for former Clearwater resident Thelma Vaughn, police spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie reported Friday morning.

Now a resident of Kamloops, Vaughn’s vehicle was found abandoned by police near the Lafarge Bridge on East Shuswap Road on Wednesday morning, Feb. 7.

The vehicle had been parked prior to the large snowfall on Feb. 4 and the person who reported the vehicle to police said it had been there for several days.

After identifying the vehicle as Vaughn’s, police checked with family and friends, who revealed that no one had heard from her for several days.

An extensive search is being conducted in the Lafarge area by Kamloops Search and Rescue, the RCMP helicopter and RCMP Police Dog Services.

The location, which is on the north shore of the South Thompson River east of Kamloops, is frequented by cross-country skiers.

At this time it is unknown if Vaughn set out from her vehicle to go cross-country skiing or hiking. Police ask friends or acquaintances to contact them if they have ever participated in any outdoor activities with her, specifically in the area near the Lafarge Bridge on East Shuswap Road.

Vaughn is described as 62 years old, 5’ 2” in height, 130 pounds, grey hair, hazel eyes and Caucasian.

The missing woman formerly lived in Clearwater, where she worked for CN for many years before her retirement a few years ago.

If you have any information on Vaughn’s hiking or skiing activities, please contact Kamloops Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800.
