Visits to the Lake Eleanor spawning channel at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing have become an annual event for students from Blue River Elementary School and this year was no exception.
Recently, a group from the school visited the channel to look at the fish and collect specimens.
“The kids look forward to it every year!” said teacher Maymie Tegart.
She added that Rory Quinn drains the channel and does a barbecue for the kids, which they love.
“We really appreciate his hard work,” she said.
The Lake Eleanor spawning channel was built in 1991 to provide a place for the trout to spawn and return to the lake.
It is located between the main lodge building and the lake, and has become a favorite feature for the resort’s summer guests.
The conservation project was made possible with the support of Mike and Michelle Wiegele, Gerry Hanna, Trans Mountain Pipelines, Grizzly Anglers, BC Fish and Wildlife and the staff at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing.
