The wild fire situation was intense this summer; our community was once again reminded of our vulnerability in the face of large scale wildfires.

The Little Fort complex fire came very close to the community of Clearwater and to the edges of the Wells Gray Community Forest land-base boundary in East Blackpool.

Wells Gray Community Forest is a public asset and it generates significant funds that support a large number of community groups and projects. We would like to extend our appreciation to all the local and outside fire crews who protected the boundary of the Community Forest. Fortunately, with the hard work of these fire crews no community forest land-base was lost to this wildfire.

Wells Gray Community Forest will continue to focus efforts adjacent to the community’s fire interface areas and support fuel reduction programs adjacent to the community of Clearwater.
